Gaze and Projection
Gaze and Projection은 시선이 무엇을 믿고, 무엇을 놓치는지에 대한 질문에서 출발한 설치 작품이다. 작품은 편광 필름이 제거된 세 개의 모니터와, 천장에 행잉된 편광 필름으로 구성된다. 관객은 이 편광 필름을 통과해 볼 때에만 화면 속 이미지와 텍스트를 인식할 수 있으며, 작품은 ‘보는 행위’가 결코 중립적이지 않다는 사실을 드러낸다.
이 설치에서 시선은 단순한 감각이 아니라 조건이며, 선택된 각도와 거리, 매개체에 의해 생성되는 불완전한 인식이다. 화면 속 내용은 언제나 존재하지만, 동시에 쉽게 사라지고 가려진다. 관객은 스스로의 위치를 조정하며 보이지 않던 것을 발견하고, 다시 놓치게 되는 과정을 반복한다.
세 개의 모니터 중 하나에는 시가 담겨 있으며, 사랑과 두려움, 기억과 냉담함이 교차하는 감정의 층위를 언어로 구성한다. Gaze and Uncertain은 확신이 아니라, 불확실 속에서만 드러나는 감각과 시선의 흔적을 기록한다.

행복은 어떤 표정으로 우리에게 다가올까요. 가느다란 눈은 차갑고 날카로운 것을 숨기고
마음을 찢어 깊숙한 곳, 내밀한 바다에 다가갑니다. 동그란 입은 바람을 불어 웃음이란 기포를 만듭니다. 어리고 연약한 것, 첨벙대는 아이가 만드는 작은 물결만큼 감정은 요동치고
모래성 만들기 놀이를 하는 아이는 좋아서 어쩔 줄 모른다. 아... 어떡하지 파도가 치면 모두 다 부서질 텐데, 흔적조차 남지 않을 텐데, 그럼 세상을 다 잃을 텐데. 엄마는
무섭다.
자라가는 아이가 만드는 파도의 크기처럼 저는 무심해집니다. 제가 냉담한 걸까요?
아이는 더는 격렬히 파도를 만들지 않기도, 모래성을 만들지도 않습니다. 사랑에는 품이 듭니다.

감는 것은 차가운 것. 더는 빛을 재생산하지 않는 것

Gaze and Projection
Gaze and Projection is an installation work starting from the question of what the gaze believes and what it misses. The work consists of three monitors with polarization films removed, and polarization films hanging from the ceiling. The audience can recognize the images and text on the screen only when viewing through these polarization films; the work reveals the fact that the ‘act of seeing’ is never neutral.
In this installation, gaze is not a simple sense but a condition, an incomplete perception generated by the selected angle, distance, and medium. The content on the screen always exists, but at the same time, it easily disappears and is obscured. The audience repeats the process of adjusting their own position to discover what was invisible, and then missing it again.
One of the three monitors contains a poem, constructing layers of emotion where love and fear, memory and coldness intersect, using language. Gaze and Uncertain records the traces of sensation and gaze that are revealed only in uncertainty, not certainty.
White snow falls. Pitiful snow, snow falling between faint lights, snow screaming, snow dotted with
endless love, snow of the apocalypse.
With what expression will happiness approach us? Narrow eyes hide something cold and sharp,
Tearing the heart to approach the deep place, the secret sea. The round mouth blows wind to make
bubbles called laughter. Emotions fluctuate as much as the small ripples made by a young and fragile
thing, a splashing child, and the child playing at making sandcastles doesn't know what to do with
joy. Ah... what to do? If the waves crash, it will all break, not even a trace will remain, and I
will lose the whole world. Mom is scared.
Like the size of the waves the growing child makes, I become indifferent. Am I cold?
The child no longer makes waves violently, nor does he make sandcastles. Love takes effort.
