Construction
Construction은 사회를 하나의 구조물로 상정하고, 그 구조가 유지되는 방식 자체를 질문하는 설치 작업이다. 작품은 큐브 형태의 조형을 기반으로 구성되며, 단단하고 안정적인 외형을 띠지만 내부적으로는 끊임없이 흔들리고 균열을 발생시킨다. 이는 사회가 견고한 규칙과 질서 위에 존재하는 것처럼 보이지만, 실상은 신뢰와 믿음, 그리고 보이지 않는 합의 위에 임시적으로 지탱되고 있음을 은유한다.
우리는 사회가 지속될 것이라는 전제를 자연스럽게 받아들이며 살아간다. 그러나 그 기반이 되는 신용과 믿음은 물질처럼 확실한 것이 아니라, 언제든 흔들리고 무너질 수 있는 감정적·관계적 조건에 가깝다. Construction은 그 불안정한 기반을 물리적 움직임과 파괴의 과정으로 시각화한다.
큐브는 사회의 형식을 상징한다. 형태는 질서를 의미하지만, 동시에 개인을 가두는 규범의 틀로도 작동한다. 작품이 점차 흔들리며 붕괴하는 과정은 사회가 유지된다고 믿어온 확신이 얼마나 취약한지, 그리고 그 확신이 깨지는 순간 우리가 마주하는 불확실이 무엇인지 드러낸다.
Construction은 ‘믿음으로 구축된 사회’가 과연 얼마나 지속 가능한지 질문하며, 확신이라는 감각이 무너지는 순간 발생하는 균열을 가시화한다.
Construction
Construction is an installation work that posits society as a single structure and questions the very way that structure is maintained. The work is composed based on a cube-shaped form; while it takes on a solid and stable appearance, internally it constantly shakes and generates cracks. This metaphorically suggests that while society seems to exist upon solid rules and order, in reality, it is temporarily supported by trust, belief, and invisible agreements.
We live naturally accepting the premise that society will continue. However, the credit and faith that form its basis are not as certain as matter, but closer to emotional and relational conditions that can shake and collapse at any time. Construction visualizes that unstable foundation through a process of physical movement and destruction.
The cube symbolizes the form of society. The shape signifies order, but simultaneously operates as a frame of norms that confines the individual. The process of the work gradually shaking and collapsing reveals how fragile the certainty we believed maintained society is, and what uncertainty we face the moment that certainty breaks.
Construction asks how sustainable a ‘society built on faith’ truly is, and makes visible the cracks that occur the moment the sense of certainty collapses.
