코드에서 주석 처리된 줄은 분명히 그 자리에 존재하지만, 시스템에 의해 읽히지 않는다. 삭제된 것은 아니되 작동하지 않는, 유예된 죽음의 상태다.
현실을 데이터로 포섭하려던 시스템의 언어가 구겨진 채 돌무더기처럼 쌓인다. 세계를 기록하려 작성된 코드는 정작 자신이 만들어 낸 표본의 곁에서 효용을 잃고, 규격에 들지 못해 잘려 나간 파편들에 덮여 묻혀 간다. 분명히 쓰였으나 더 이상 아무것도 실행하지 못하는 언어의 무덤이다.

A commented-out line of code is unmistakably there, in its place, yet it goes unread by the system. Not deleted, but inoperative — a state of suspended death.
The language of a system that sought to subsume reality as data lies crumpled, heaped like a cairn of stones. Code written to record the world loses its use beside the very specimen it produced, and is buried beneath the fragments clipped away for failing to meet the specification. It is a tomb of language: unmistakably written, yet no longer executing anything.
